With fewer than three weeks to go until the release of Blade Kitten, I was really looking forward to participating in the adventures of Kit and the gang. I've been following the development of the game since it was announced for the Playstation 3 and was overjoyed when the PC was added as a release platform; I didn't relish the thought of having to splash out on a Playstation 3, although before the announcement, I was quite prepared to.
I said that I *was* looking forward to the game. Today I read Blade Kitten's page on Valve's Steam content delivery system and saw the following:
> 3rd-party DRM: SecuROM
> 3 machine activation limit
It's hard to express my disappointment in words. SecuROM means an instant no-sale for me, I'm afraid. I cannot fathom exactly why SecuROM DRM was added to the Steam release - Steam already provides access control for content; that's part of its purpose. I'm afraid that I am no longer considering going the PS3 route either as, although I could avoid SecuROM that way, I do not wish to support these distribution practices in any way.
If you and your partners eventually release a version of Blade Kitten for the PC with a sensible copy protection system, I will gladly snap up a copy. Until then, Blade Kitten will have to be yet another game that I would have loved to have played but was prevented from doing so by publishers who didn't want me to. A quick glance at the forum tells me I'm not the only one who is disappointed.
I know my comment is unlikely to change anything, but if anyone on the development team or involved in the management of this website feels the same way as I, perhaps you could voice your thoughts to those who made this questionable decision in the hope that it might save, if not this game, then others in the future from a similar fate.

I take it all back. Apparently the mention of secondary DRM on Steam's store page was a mistake (that they will hopefully soon correct).
A great big thank you to Space Captain Steve for clearing this up. I will be standing at the front of the queue on day 1 with my wallet. :)
So when's part 2 coming out? Release it already!!!
